Stone Island - Spring/Summer '08
The Spring/Summer '08 collection from Stone Island has focused on quality of construction, graphics and attention to detail. This is the perfect example of contemporary men’s sportswear.
Design has now been streamlined and functionality is key; any design element that does not have a functional use has been excluded. Every design component of every piece must be justified. The high-tech features in the materials, the selection of colours and the study of weight are all taken into consideration. With each piece, the strength of these elements is alternated so that a single distinctive feature from each garment can emerge.
Outerwear is a crucial part of the Stone Island collection. A comprehensive selection of technical fabrics has been developed for SS08. New fabrics include the silk with a polyurethane coating; this is transparent with a grained effect and then each piece is separately garment-dyed. Light blousons are produced in tyvek and combined with a nylon knit. The antiqued cotton gabardine is coated with light reflecting glass micro spheres. Cotton muslin is now water-resistant with the use of a polyurethane film producing ‘Ventile’; a 100% cotton and 100% waterproof fabric. Jackets and light weight parkas have been produced in K-Ways Nylon (the lightest nylon in the world) they are then resined so that the fabric is waterproof. Cotton muslin has also been combined with a metal effect Nylon.
Knitwear and sweatshirts are super light weight for the summer season; Pieces are drop-stitched and produced in light weight gages. Each piece is individually hand-painted resulting in a completely unique look; with pastel colours on either the inside or on both sides in contrast colour effects. Technical sweatshirts combine the comfort of Lycra with the natural feel of cotton. Sweatshirts in light-weight jersey are wind-proof, ribbed or in jersey with a gabardine effect.
T-shirts have all-over print or graphic patterns that are minimal style sketches made with felt-tip pens. Trousers, Bermudas and shorts are produced in natural fibres such as cotton and linen, for an essential selection of shapes and details. Sober tones of black, smoke grey, light grey, khaki and white are accentuated with brighter tones of orange, red, blue, sky blue, violet and turquoise.
